Portugal is the perfect location for lovers of history, adventure, and great Port! Port is, of course, the drink of choice throughout Portugal, but is especially popular in its birthplace, Porto. When traveling to Portugal I would recommend either starting in the North and working your way south or vice-versa. The country itself varies greatly as you travel through it. Some “not-to-miss” places in the North are Porto and the Douro Valley. The Douro Valley is a World UNESCO site where the majority of wine is made in Portugal. It’s divided by the Douro River and is absolutely breathtaking!
When visiting the South, you will experience the iconic coastline that is commonly thought of when people think of Portugal. I would recommend starting in Lisbon (or Lisboa) and working your way through the beautiful Algarve! The final stop that should be on every itinerary is Madeira Island. Madeira is commonly referred to as the “baby of Europe and Hawaii”. It’s truly a place unlike any other and a must-see!
You truly can’t go wrong when traveling in Portugal, this is a place that has something for every type of traveler!
